I have been fighting a chest infection for a month. Finally figured out how to go to the doctor & did so. Nothing like the benefits of a strong antibiotic to breath life back into me! I slept well & for a long time! Got up & drew from noon to 8 p.m.! What more, the drawings began to work. I had been slugging along with very little to show for it. So I’m looking forward to another good day tomorrow!
Here are some images of today’s work! Not done but it’s on the way!
Just sent in the media information for the c.r.e.t.a. group exhibit that opens Saturday, May 24’Th!
The PRESSURE is on to work on & to complete the drawings! I have a strong appreciation for SCAD students’ & their projects’ deadlines right now!
I have set up my cottage to be a studio! It took a week or so to figure out what felt comfortable to me.First, I needed to see ALL my drawings from Rome. The good, the bad and the ugly! All the drawings went up in the living room
Then I just looked and began to scribble ideas, words & images.
I began to work outside. I needed to start the larger drawings. I got two of the four pretty much thought out & the placement down! But I needed two more boards. I wanted to see all four drawings developing at the same time.
So I hit the train back to Rome for the wood place & came back with two more boards, 80cmx100cm. (I have not idea how many inches that is! So I must be adjusting to Italy!)
And stopped by Poggi’s Art Store around the corner from the Pantheon!

It’s fascinating to draw the Rome’s ruins.
It’s like having a conversation with the piece & discovering its secrets.
By drawing I discover the details of precision that make the column both strong, massive & elegant
Layers of Ruins from one century to the next
Caesar died here!
I came across this relief on the side of the ancient theater a block away!
I am investigating drawing on clay. I haven’t a clue how to do this. I fall back on my favorite model, my cat. I know her form. I am free then to play with the clay, to play with a bowl’s circular format, to see what happens if…
Wednesday I leave for Rome. I leave a part of my heart at home with my cat, Fluffer Nutter, my constant M&M.
